Mapping tool to track your distances

Way back, not many years after the internet started being used by the masses, there was a site where you could plan a route, say from Maine to California, or one end of your state to the other. Then as you exercised, you could put in your distances walking, running, biking, etc. and it would track the distance as if you were making that actual journey, this way you could say, "hey, I have walked across Vermont in 20 days (or Montana if you were crazy fit). If you have any idea of a site that does this let me go. It seems like a great motivational tool.
