Hello all...
I was just having a bath and i was pondering this whole exercise calories thing... without the risk of winding anybody up, i'm all for eating exercise cals... so now thats sorted, my question is......
People that lose weight in other sensible options like weight watchers and slimming world etc... they don;t have any mention of eating what you burn do they??
I'm just curious as until i joined this site i only knew that you "eat less...move more" not eat less move more then eat more.. lol!
like i said don;t get me wrong, i totally understand the reason why we do it etc etc but i was just wondering about the above...
AND..................discuss..

From what I hear with weight watchers, they do get exercise points to eat back (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I generally don't eat my exercise calories back, I just eat more calories each day0

I think a way of looking at it is people have their cake and eat it
It is true you should eat your exercise calories
I believe the problem comes in that people effectively factor in their calories from exercise in there daily maintenance
They they go on to to exercise, often wildly overestimate what they burn then eat it and moan they arent loosing weight.0 -
everyone has a different opinion, and the way they approach a "diet". even the professionals cant agree with each other0

I've never done any of these organised diets, but I believe Weight Watchers and the like are just like any other 'fad diet', leading to a larger number of people gaining lost weight back.
They work, to some extent, on deprivation and control. They encourage the purchase of their own products and foods to lose weight, they don't teach you a lifestyle, and you're tied to them for a long time.
People deprive themselves, might not eat enough, don't learn how to eat beyond the Weight Watchers way and eventually try and come away from WW only to find they struggle keeping that lifestyle going, so they return.
With new people joining and the same people going back time and time again, and with their own products to sell, they make a fortune from NOT helping people develop healthier habits.0 -
I did Slimming World and lost 2 stone, you don't count calories at all on there so there's no concept of eating back exercise calories. I think it's a healthier way of doing things than calorie counting as you just eat healthy foods for the most part and never have to be hungry as a lot of foods are unlimited.
I'm now calorie counting because I don't have access to Slimming World and a lot of the foods I relied on whilst following the plan. I'm also close to goal so maybe the SW plan wouldn't work for me as much now as I'm not overweight. It definitely works if you're overweight but I'm not sure about if you're normal weight but want to lose a few more lbs.
I'm divided on the 'eating back exercise calories' issue. I don't fully trust the numbers for either daily calorie goal or how much exercise burns. I'm muddling my way through it by sticking relatively close to my daily goal and eating back maybe half my exercise calories.
I think I prefer the non-calorie counting way of eating healthy foods until you're not hungry, exercising regularly and eating some more if you feel you need it. I'm sticking to the MFP plan to get to my goal then I shall probably go back to the basics of SW with occasional treats for maintenance.0 -
Slimming World is Clean Eating
It's slow but seems to be quite effective0 -

Yeah I guess it is clean eating for the most part. It wasn't slow for me though, I regularly lost 2-3lbs a week. That was when I had a lot to lose, it would probably be slow now.0
