Is this possible or is the website wrong?

I took my second set of measurements today and using an online site attempted to get my body fat percentage but even though inches are down, it says body fat is up, I'm so confused now:

As of March 5:

Waist (upper) 26.5

Waist (at belly button) 29.5

Thighs 20.5

Chest 32

Calves 14

Neck 13

Wrist 6.5

According to this site: http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/home-body-fat-test-2774-143.html

You have 21% body fat.

You have 27.3 Pounds of fat and 102.7 Pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water).

As of April 5:

Waist (upper) 26 (yay)

Waist (at belly button) 29.5 (boo)

Thighs 20.5

Chest 31 (boo LOL)

Calves 13.5

Neck 12.5 (I never realized you could lose inches on your neck) suprising

Wrist 6 (again, suprising)

According to this site: http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/home-body-fat-test-2774-143.html

You have 22.5% body fat.

You have 28.8 Pounds of fat and 99.2 Pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water).

It appears that my body fat % is up even though my measurements are down, very strange

They all have some margin of error.

UPDATE: I was advised that I am measuring my neck incorrectly, a remeasure shows it at 13 and body fat at 19.6%

I'm pretty sure that website is correct - or at least ballbark correct as bodyfat % will have definitely increased if you're neck , hips and wrist size have reduced while your waist at belly button has remained the same.

Now there might be a few reasons why your bodyfat percenateg has increased or at least the reading of it hae increased.

    1. The most obvious one is human error. Either the first set of readings or the second ones have errors in them. My wife took my readings - 2 weeks apart and there were quite a few discrepancies, some of which I'm a bit disinclined to believe.

    2. You're losing weigh tn the wrong way. Not eating enough and not eating enough protein in particular perhaps and not doing some strength work to maintain and increase your muscles.

i started a new group recently for people who are interested in reducing body fat. you might be interested in it. It's early days so we don't have much stuff on there yet, but I'm sure it'll get more interesting over the next few months.

Thanks - joined! I have recently upped my calories because I realized I was eating too little at 1200, currently at 1500 and not against bumping them even higher now that I've started weight training. My protein levels are high (around 100 grams a day). That being said though, i'm open to any suggestions.

I have to go with this one. I think the lack of protein and strength training rather than calories has more to do with losing muscle in a calorie deficit - and eating a lot of processed "low-fat" foods. They are still processed refined carb heavy garbage that lacks the nutrition needed for a healthy body. But of course if your calorie intake is well below your BMR then I don't know if you could blame lack of protein.

I believe the quality of the food has more to do with body composition than the quantity of food.

And I just don't put much into those types of measurements anymore.

I lost the majority of my body fat when I dropped the grains, legumes, flours, sugars, and milk (I still do some full fat greek yogurt and heavy whipping cream in my coffee and cheese). I increased my fat intake with butter, coconut oil, meats, eggs, and such. I did this after 6 months of "dieting". I did less exercise. I went from around 22% bf down to 18-19% bf when I did this. I hit a weight I haven't seen since before puberty. I was 136lbs at 14. I never went below 120 in my adulthood. I have been Primal for 11 months now (with some ups and downs on the sugar roller coaster - it is pure addiction in my body) and I hit 109.6 at the beginning of March. But N=1.

    Good luck. LIFT HEAVY!!!
