Almond Milk and Yogurt

Good Morning,
I love Almond Milk! It's good for someone that lactose intolerant like me. I don't suffer from gas and/or discomfort anymore. I just picked up some Almond Milk Yogurt last night and wanted to know if anyone has tried before and if so, what's your assessment of it. I found a blog of a Vegan who tried and surveyed several different types of non-dairy yogurt and she rated Almond Milk Yogurt the highest.
I hope to get some responses.

I have never even heard of Almond milk yogurt. About a month ago, I discovered almond milk and my husband and kids really like it. I have started mixing it with fruit and plain nonfat yogurt and making smoothies in the blender. I will have to look for the yogurt because I bet my family would like it.0

I have to look for that. I love Almonf milk and yogurt in my Protein shake!0

It's better than the soy, hands down. I like the coconut milk yogurt as much as the almond milk yogurt. The coconut milk yogurt is more "creamy".
My sports nutritionist advised me to stick with soy for the milk, though. Her point was that the proteins in almond and coconut milk are inferior to those in soy (and that matters to me since protein is important for exercise recovery, and I run A LOT). She didn't say it was bad, just that if I can tolerate the soy to just stay with the soy. No reason to change at this point.
I've found that I can tolerate goat's milk yogurt just fine if I take a lactaid. But it's really expensive and hard to find.0 -
I make my own yogurt. I wonder if the process is the same when using almond milk?0

I'm also lactose intolerant. If anyone is interested, almond milk is SO easy to make.. and a heck of a lot cheaper than it cost ready made.
Just take about 1/2 cup of raw almonds.
Bring about 1/2 inch of water to a boil in a fry pan and dump in the almonds.
Let them boil for about 1 minute.
Dump them into a colander or strainer and run cold water over them to cool them off.
Pinch the almonds and they will pop right out of their skins.
Take the almonds and put them into the blender.
Fill the blender with about 1 quart of (I use filtered) water and puree for about 1 minute or until all the chunks are gone.
You can use it like this, but you will need to shake it very well before pouring.
Otherwise, strain it through cheese cloth or a large strainer.
Shake before using. It keeps in the fridge for about a week.
So simple! (and yummy!)
Edit: Oh, and if you want to make extra almonds, just pop them in the freezer. They freeze so well and you can take them out a few at a time and they are just right for snacking, etc. They don't get "freezer hard" and if dry when put into the freezer, they stay separate.0 -
Ohhh who makes almond milk yogurt. I have to find it!!! I do eat coconut yogurt and like that but I would love almond milk yogurt I don't do soy anything so coconut yogurt has been what I have been sticking do!0

Blue Diamond unsweetened vanilla almond milk is da bomb! I use it in my protein smoothies. I have seen the yogurt at Whole Foods, but haven't tried it yet. I have had coconut milk yogurt and it was just ok in my opinion. I prefer greek yogurt (dairy), but the coconut milk ice cream is really good!0

I see Yoplait has Lactose Free Yogurt now. In the green and white container.0

Thanks for all the great replies! How do you make yogurt? I will let yawl know what I think of the Almond Milk yogurt, but I absolutely love Almond Milk and we use both the Plain and Vanilla varieties. I'm not a fan of soy, so I will stick with the Almond Milk. I have tried soy yogurt and it's okay. I haven't tried coconut yogurt yet, but I have seen the coconut ice cream and plan to try that. Whole Foods is really expensive all around and yesterday was my first time in one.
I'm trying to follow Dr. Peter D'Adamo's Eat Right 4 Your Type and the Dukan Diet. Feel free to add me. I fell of the wagon tasting, sampling and buying food from Whole Foods.:blushing:0 -

I like almond milk. I didn't realize that they made yogurt out of it. Thanks for the info.0 -
I love Silk Pure Almond Vanilla Milk! SOOOO good! I'm supposed to avoid Soy products, so I was suggested to try this product. I love it! I use it in my Shakes, cereal, and recipes that call for milk. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant and I've tried to get him to try it, but I seriously think he has a phobia of it since it looks so much like regular milk. Little does he know I use it in alot of our recipes that I make MU HAHAHAH. :laugh:0

I've never seen almond milk yogurt but I do like almond milk though I have a hard time justifying purchasing or drinking it in lieu of skim (cow's) milk since nutritionally it isn't superior to skim milk as far as I can tell and yet it is a bit more expensive. In fact, I don't really drink much milk at all since I've been trying to lose weight. I do eat dairy, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. It almost seems like a waste of a finite (and precious) resource, that is my daily calorie allotment.0

I couldn't STAND almond milk yogurt... left an awful taste in my mouth. Perhaps it's the brand I had. It was Amande. I'm from a small town and we have limited options, and that's all I had to work with! However, I adore coconut milk yogurt. So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk Greek Style... it's awesome. Blueberry is my favorite. If you find an almond milk yogurt you like, let me know - I'll check for it when I'm out of town visiting my friend (I do my shopping sometimes when I'm visiting her...). Rice milk yogurt (brand is Ricera) is not too bad either...0

I'm allergic to dairy - and I crave a glass of skim milk almost daily. It's been 3 years since I've had a glass, and that craving NEVER goes away :noway:0 -

Sorry to hear that Krysti, isn't there some medication you can take? I guess that means dairy is out altogether?0 -
I am allergic to milk. I loved the Amande, but only certain flavors, didn't care for the peach at all. I am not a fan of the coconut milk or soy milk yogurts at all.
Good luck I hope you like it or at least find a yogurt that you do like!0
