I'm Amy. I had always been very slim, until my mother died a few years ago and I piled on the pounds (fifty to be exact). I lost all of confidence and almost lost respect for myself-inside and out and so I did not really pay any attention to what I was putting in my mouth and it really started to show.

One day I was taking a shower and decided I had had enough of being ashamed of my weight and decided I was going to do something about it.

I have been very determined (apart from a few slip ups) and with the help of MFP as well as my family supporting my very sensible shopping list, I have lost almost 20 pounds since 10th February and am really starting to feel good about myself. I still have 25 pounds to lose but I am finding it a lot easier than I thought I ever would.

It really is true that once you start cutting the bad stuff out that you do not miss it or crave it. I look forward to my meals now because with the MFP meal planner I know exactly what I am going to eat for the day and it really helps me cut down on impulse snacking.

I used to be the ultimate couch potato, borderline suffering from depression I would say, but all that has changed. It really has become a complete lifestyle change. I look forward to my walks (jog if I can) as well as my gym session. I use this time as 'me' time and it is becoming rather enjoyable.

I would recommend people downloading the runkeeper app, it is a great way to track your exercise and for the competitive people like myself, encourages you to push your jogs and better your time..

Really enjoying the experience, wearing clothes I hid in the back of my wardrobe for years, feeling a bit more confident and tracking my progress with the help of MFP

Amy, i'm so sorry to hear about your mother. it sounds like you've made an amazing life change, though - and that that deep grief was part of your mourning your loss. i completely relate to "losing respect for yourself inside and out" through weight gain. well said & welcome!! and congrats on your amazing journey so far! 20 lbs is awesome!
