Do calories make you fat?

How come I am eating 1200 calories a day, and working out, but not losing weight?

Are carbs good? bad?

Does eating slower make you eat less?

PLEASE HELP!

If you are eating ONLY 1200 and then exercising, you may be going into starvation mode and your body may be hording calories because you are eating too little.

Carbs affect different people differently, but I can say that for me, when my diet is overly carb-y and overly sugar-y, I gain.

How long have you been doing this? Can I look at what you're eating? It could be what types of food you're eating. Also are you eating your "exercise calories"...depending on how much you are exercising you may not be eating enough if you are exercising a lot ...you may have to eat more.

Also are you drinking a lot of water? Water really helps, plus if you are drinking too much diet soda that will make you retain water...are you eating a lot of prepackaged "diet" foods? They have a lot of sodium in them and you will retain water and bloat and not loose...all these things add up.

Stick with it...eventually you WILL loose...there is no way that you will eat only 1200 calories a day and work out and not eventually see results!

You can friend me if you want :)

Calories are fuel. When you eat more calories than your body can use they are stored in the body for future use making you 'fat'.

As far as why you;re not losing weight it's impossible to tell without seeing your diary but I assume you're not eating enough if you're only eating 1200 calories and exercising on top of that.

Carbs are only really bad if your body doesn't tolerate them well. You just don;t want to eat too far over your macros for the day which are the numbers given to you by MFP of carbs/fat/protein.

It takes your stomach 20 minutes to tell your brain when it is full. So the slower you eat, the less you will eat.
  • You can look but I asked these questions for my grandmother! She is on here, her name is butterflynana97. I don't think she is eating her exercise calories which may be why. Maybe you guys could shoot her some advice and motivation?! Thanks.

btw, these questions help me too!
Only I aim for 1700 calories a day.

Eating more calories that your body uses makes you fat.

There could be many reasons for this. You could be underestimating your calories eaten. You could have a medical disorder that makes weight loss more difficult, or makes certain foods problematic. You could have a slow metabolism that you need to boost through exercise.
    Are carbs good? bad?
Carbohydrates are your bodies first choice for fuel and are certainly not bad. But not all carbs are created equal. Foods that are high in carbohydrates but also contain protein and/or fiber (whole grains, vegetables, fruits) are heatlhier than those that don't (juices, sugars, processed (white) bread and pasta).
Does eating slower make you eat less?
I suppose it could, but there is no guarantee of this. If you eat too quickly and don't limit portiions you could overeat before giving your body time to feel full. Otherwise I can't see how it make any difference.
