Angry Runs

I've been using running as my primary exercise for weight loss. I've always wanted to be a runner and I like running. I'm also aware that it's 80% mental and 20% physical. My biggest success was one adrenaline pumped run of just over 5 miles at an 8:30 pace. My crappy runs are just over 3 miles at 9:30 pace. I have trouble taking an off day, but I do it begrudgingly.

I have had issues with my feet going numb during my runs and it makes me cut them short. I can tough out being tired, but the numbness in the feet I can't overcome. It happens only on some runs and I've gotten lock laces and considerably loosened my shoe laces. I was fitted for proper running shoes also.

I've found that when I run - I'm angry. I'm starting to think this is a mental issue showing itself physically. I live and run in the city, so it can be frustrating running around clueless, obnoxious pedestrians. But, why am I so angry while running? It's something I like to do. It's something that is good for my health and will bring me closer to my goals. People on the street always make eye contact with me but I'm starting to think it might be because I look so pissed off.

And when I have a bad run - all goes to hell. I am so angry and upset and I always end up emotionally eating and binging and then ruining my calories for the day.

Today I'm going to try to make an effort to be consciously happy during my run. Running makes me happy, why should I be smiling and bopping to my good playlist?

Does anyone else have this issue of being angry during their workout and think it's having negative effects?

Like Brandyk77, I seem to have a better workout when I'm angry, In fact when in a bad mood just being out running or riding helps me clear my head from what ever is bothering me.

Check how you are running, if you are pounding your feet hard on the concreate it may affect your feet and your run and give you that numb feeling. For me we took a video camera over to the high school and recorded my feet so I could see how I was landing and pushing off on my runs.

Can't address the anger issues, frankly, I simply not an angry person of much of anything so can't imagine that emotion when exercising. Maybe stressed, aggressive, or intense, but anger is such a strong emotion. I wouldn't be running if it were me and it made me angry, - Just a thought. - You may want to check out ChiRunning, where the form is taught in a relaxation stage so that you don't hold stress in your body and relax to enjoy the run. try smiling when you run - keep a smile on your face, so you look like you are having fun, you may enjoy it more.

But the numbness in your feet. I have sought out numerous specialists for this - and long story short - the massage therapist finally was able to pinpoint that it's my Piriformous muscles tight - rubbing on my sciatic nerve, causing numbness in my feet. I work with a MT to get relief and it's working well for me. It happens when I'm at about 4 miles w/o treatment.
