My sisters are big fans of the 17 day diet. This diet consists of 4 cycles with the 1st cyle lasting 17 days thus the name of the diet. During the 1st cycle you lose lots of water weight and basically detox the body. The 1st cycle is very restrictive in the foods you can and cannot have. As you move forward through the cycles, you start to incorporate more and more foods into your diet and the goal being by the 4th cycle you have made a lifestyle change. The author or inventor of the diet is an MD and also recommends adding exercise into the plan. The problem is that, with my sisters at least, they continue repeating the 1st cycle with week long breaks in between the 17 day cycles because you lose so much weight with the 1st 17 day cycle. Just wondering if any of you have done this diet and what your thoughts of it are. Personally, I think it could be an OK thing if one went through with all 4 cycles but I choose not to diet at all. I don't like the word diet as it implies restrictions. I prefer to eat what I want, log my calories in vs. calories out, and make wise food choices. I never feel restricted thus I do not overeat or overindulge in any one thing.

It's another in a long list of high protein low carbohydrate diets and like most restrictive diets leads to fairly quick initial weight loss but, in the long run, they are rarely sustainable and the dieter puts the weight back on.I don't like the word diet as it implies restrictions. Agree 100% - your sisters could learn a lot from you!0
