I will have my tubes tied in about 2weeks and forgot to ask my doctor how long I have to wait until I can do strength training and running. If you had a small day surgery, how long were you out of commission?

Best answer: you should ask your doctor. (If you can ask him questions by e-mail, that's perfect for this sort of thing.)

Second-best answer: When I've had laparoscopies, it took about three days to stop feeling like crap from the anethesia & nitrogen. That would probably be when you might want to start doing some walking, gentle stretches, etc. (and go back to work). I'd think it'd be at least a week or two before you should run or lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk - but if your doctor says to take longer, take longer.
(ETA: my last laparoscopy was in 1996 - procedures may have changed/improved since then. (One would certainly hope they have. :))

Hope all goes well, and enjoy the sports model. :)
