She turned something so simple into the most confusing subject ever. That was hard to watch.... :/

because she said it about calories in vs calories out? sounds about right to me. Oh I forgot carbs are evil and fat makes you fat.

Way to jump the gun, but I am not disputing the fact that it comes down to calories.
    For starters:

    1. She demonizes high fructose corn syrup.

    2. She is giving you the idea that all forms of exercise will allow you to maintain your muscle mass.

    3. She believes that increasing muscle mass "ramps up metabolism". While this is technically true, the effect is extremely insignificant and is therefore negligible.

    4. She is giving you the false idea that your metabolism will not be slowed down if you do not reduce calories below a certain magic number. Your metabolic rate will slow down to some degree even if you are in less of a caloric deficit.

And the most stupid of all:

    5. She claims that 1200 calories is not going to put you in a starvation mode, but below that will. And one of her quotes
"calorie restriction does not destroy your metabolism - only if you starve yourself below 1200 calories and you don't workout"

This statement is just idiotic. She thinks 500-800 calories is "starving" but 1200 calories is not? Is 1200 a magic number? All dieting is starvation to a lesser extent.

Overall, She manages to take complex concepts which she does not understand and dumb it down to give false and dangerous recommendations.

yes I did jump the gun a bit. As far as the points you brought up

    1. I don't feel mentioning high fructose corn syrup in passing is demonizing

    2. she is correct in a way. If someone just eats at a deficit and does not exercise they will lose more LBM than someone that eats at a deficit and does some form of exercise.

    3. is debatable. I would have to see a study that shows if you gain LBM, you do not need more calories to maintain your weight.

    4. & 5. while I believe there is a metabolic slowdown, to what extent is debatable. I think the term "starvation mode" gets thrown around way too much. She may have oversimplified it a bit, but have you spent much time on here, now imagine how under educated ( nutrition wise ) the rest of the population is....just sayin. I am pretty sure she understands the complex concepts but also understands that the general population does not, hence the dumbing it down

I'm sorry If I came across snarky. Normally when anyone comes out and says eat what you want just watch your calories, there is a shat storm of people that want to point to one macro, or one time of day that you eat, and you need to eat clean or you will never lose weight.

The fact that she is even mentioning it as a problem is absurd and demonstrates that she is just spewing nonsense. There is nothing inherently "bad" about HFCS.
she is correct in a way. If someone just eats at a deficit and does not exercise they will lose more LBM than someone that eats at a deficit and does some form of exercise.

The point is that it depends on context, even when you are in a caloric deficit.

    There many variables to consider:
    1. Which type of exercise? She does not specify. There are plenty of forms of training that will lead to a decrease in muscle mass.
    2. How fat is the individual? The more fat the individual, the less muscle they are likely to lose under any circumstance.
    3. How long has the individual been dieting? Hormones shift around a lot in a diet (leptin/testosterone down, cortisol up, etc.). This is more of a problem in lean individuals. This is where incorporating refeeds/diet breaks are crucial to prevent muscle-loss/plateaus.

I can go further but you get the point. She is vastly oversimplifying and speaking in "sound bites" that do more harm than good.
    3. is debatable. I would have to see a study that shows if you gain LBM, you do not need more calories to maintain your weight.

As I said, adding muscle does increase metabolic rate - just not to any significant degree. Adding on one pound of muscle means you burn an additional 6 calories per day. Gaining 10 pounds of muscle (which is not something that will happen overnight) means you burn an additional 60 calories per day. Nothing to get excited about.
    4. & 5. while I believe there is a metabolic slowdown, to what extent is debatable. I think the term "starvation mode" gets thrown around way too much. I don't think she does understand them. Saying she may have oversimplified a bit is a gross understatement. And none of this changes the fact that she's spreading bull**** - don't be an apologist.
