i have always been fat. when i started working out i worked everything out but abs.
you know the only place i hold fat is in my belly.. im at about 17% body fat and everything is looking nice. cept da belly :grumble:
so my theory ..... MORE ABS!

Actually, it's because your body naturally stores fat there first. I am guessing it's not sticking out (much) but just hiding the abs you've developed from lifting weights. So... more cardio!0 -
Core exercises are part of any well rounded fitness program, but you can do all the abs you want and won't have six pack until you get rid of the layer of fat hiding them. Moderate calorie restriction, cardio & strength combined.0

Isn't the old belly fat a diet issue more than a cardio/weights issue?
Locking your core in when doing free weights (not machine/smiths machine) should help with Abs stuff too... although a gym-goer tells me she thinks the twisting from boxing is what helped her lose her belly fat.0 -
What you need to do is eat a deficit to lose more of the body fat.. like another poster said, you can do abs until you are blue in the face but it won't help unless the fat is gone.0

Actually no.0

Good luck with that theory.0

I told my friend that she shouldn't work abs because the fat will still be there and more muscle, so the stomach would look larger.
Don't know if it's true. But I'm mean like that.0 -
If spot training was a real thing, then everyone who was overweight and had a desk job would have skeletal hands from all the typing.0

OK that actually made me laugh out loud. I have a desk job and WISH my hands were a little more..er...skeletal...than they are now.0 -

I believe it is true. The fat will just sit on nice abs, so if the fat was 2 inches thick and the abs 1/2 inch thick, you'll now have a 2.5 inch thick midriff rather than a 2 inch thick midriff!0
