Each to their own?


I have only ever heard each to their own in RL, but on here everyday I read to each their own.


Is it a UK/US language thing? Like aubergine/eggplant courgette/zucchini?

Grammatically speaking, the following are correct:
"To each, his or her own."
"Each to his or her own."

This would be shortened from:
"To each person, his or her own [opinion]."
or
"Each person, to his or her own opinion, is allowed."

"to each their own" must be the US thing because I've never heard it the otherway around except from non-Americans online.

To expound upon this, each is a singular distributive pronoun so using the word their is a broken antecedent. That is why the grammatically correct antecedent is his or her.
