My other half and I are at loggerheads!

Every time after a workout, I get extremely cold. Doesn't matter if I go for a warm shower, eat a healthy snack, keep moving for a while etc. I just go really cold, put up the heating and annoy every one around me, it seems.

Is it not normal to get so cold after a workout? What can I do to prevent this please? This lasts for a good 2 or more hours probably!

Help! Please...? :ohwell:

The same thing happens to me and it is so annoying. I have no idea if there is anything to help stop it, I haven't found anything. Sorry!

Well there are a couple of things, one thing is you could just have bad circulation, but one of the biggest reason people get cold after workouts is that they are very dehydrated. A lot of people don't replace the water in there body after working out because the either like how they look after losing the water wait, or think that they are adding the weight back on which isn't true at all. Another reason is that when you are exercising your body is dumping heat trying to cool down that is why you are sweating in the first place, so when you stop working out your body is still trying to cool down, and some people feel cold from that. It's like when sick people have a fever, but get the chills.

Thanks for the advice. I forgot to mention that I do drink water during or after exercise. I don't sweat too too badly.

Any advice on how to warm up quickly?

A cool to cold shower would cool your body temperature quicker than a warm shower, but then you would be cold for another reason haha. You might warm up quicker after though. It is one of the reasons you see athletes in a tub full of ice, it helps the circulation, and to cool the body down after an intense workout.

This actually happened to me for the first time ever yesterday. Pushed myself particularly hard. Glad to know there is a reason for it. I am pretty sure I wasn't dehydrated so maybe my body was just trying to cool me down really hard.

After your shower, put on warm clothes (if your workout is in the evening, this usually works out great).

If it's in the morning, dress in layers for work and grab a coffee.

As it gets warmer, get back outside after your shower and relax in the sunshine.

Not only am I dressed warmly.. I also have a big fat blanket wrapped around me and have the electric fire blasting.. The reason my other half thinks I've gone a bit potty.

I do sweat after a hard workout, but not to the extreme. Probably a bit less than most other people I exercise with!

Then your body is cooling off. If you skin is thin, and you have little bodyfat, you have less insulation to protect you from the cold too.

I have way too much insulation! :blushing:

Thank you for your input. It's nice to know it is nothing to worry about!
