I'm not sure how many calories to eat?

I started using MyFitnessPal around mid/late March, and MyFitnessPal recommended 1200 calories a day. That's what I've been eating. While I have been losing weight, I've been seeing a lot of threads about BMR and TDEE. Should I be eating more calories? Am I putting my body into starvation mode or something of that sort?

I am a 5'1" 20-year-old female and currently 198.6 lbs.

I'm pretty new to the forums, and I would appreciate any help.

Also, I'm consider myself sedentary. Although I have a job where I am on my feet on the time, and I'm just starting the Couch to 5k. (Week 1 Day 2 tomorrow, huzzah!)

MFP figures out this stuff for you if you input your numbers correctly. 1200 calories seems very low....check your inputs again...and do remember to eat back your exercise calories. Good luck....you can do this!

The number of calories you eat should be determined by how much you want to lose each week. I agree that 1200 seems low. I would have no energy at 1200. I'd consider bumping it up to 1500, but that is just me.
