How do you get your excercise in?

I work from 6:00-3 then I come home to two kids one 3 years old the other 18 months old. Both very much handfuls. My husband is with them all day and then he goes into work at 5 till close. I live in an apartment where there only play place is either the living room (medium size almost considered too small with all their toys) or their bedroom which is upstairs and I don't find it safe for them to be alone in a room by themselves for a period of time for me to get my work out in. So I have an hour window to do my work out while my husband distracts them. However I know he needs a break before work from the kids which I give him. So I have been doing my work out after they go to bed at 8. My problem is I need to be in bed by 9:30 and me working out at 8 makes it harder for me to go to sleep because I have more energy. I can't afford a gym at the moment, So can you give me some ideas on what to do? How to work around this?

get the walking shoes on and the pram out and off you go (possibly a back thing for bub) ... walking is awesome and great exercise. I know you said that you can't afford to go to a gym - but try your hardest and see if you can cut back on something to afford to go to gym - it is great time out for you and you only..... yep, great that you are giving hubby 'down time' BUT please you need your time as well.... :flowerforyou:0

You don't have to have a gym membership (though it's nice and I wish I had one). Walking is a great exercise as suggested by matty2361, also get your kids involved if you can.
They have great energy I would imagine, try to gather yours and make a game that you can play with them so that you can exercise. Racing games or even follow the leader can be great fun for them, and if you are creative a good exercise for you. You have a medium sized room, try to do lunges across the room while you are with your kids, jumping jacks, jump rope without the rope. Do some dancing to the radio or even create a routine that can be done. I worked with kids 2-6 for about 2 years and I learned really quickly that if you play a game like "freeze dance" where it's like musical chairs and red light green light combined (dance till you hit pause then they stand as still as possible till the music starts again) they will love it and you can "play" along with some moves of your own.
Make simple things like putting away dishes or laundry a work out by adding exercise to them, squats, arm raises with wrist weights, that sort of thing. Doing these things around your kids will not only allow you to exercise but you will be a good example for them as they get older. Good luck on finding more time. I hope this helps.0 -
The above are great recommendations. Is there a workout room in your apartment complex? A lot of them have them that are free for residents. If so, go straight from work and get it in before you go home to relieve your husband of his child watch duties.0

How heavy are your kids? How many reps can you manage?0

I work out at home. Basically, I record the tv I want to watch, then exercise while watching it.
I hear you about the cost of a home gym, but there are a lot of good body weight workouts you can start with, mthen buy things like pull up bars or weight as holidays come up.0 -
they are heavy! LOL I have been doing Zumba on the Wii, I was just looking to do something during the day when I got off of work.0
