Your cross training can be almost anything; cycling , swimming, rowing, strength (very important for runners).

Having a diverse program offers you the benefit of reducing the likelihood of sustaining an injury and keeps it more interesting.

Well, when I played soccer, I did cross-country running in the off season, specifically to train for soccer. So... find a adult soccer league! Or anything else that you might be interested in. I think the cardio element is important, but also think about working those muscles in a manner that's different from running.

If you're talking about cross training between the days you run, try to keep it something low impact. You want to give your joints a rest. Cycling, swimming, rowing and strength training are all great options.

Thanks! This is all good stuff :) I've been thinking about finding a tennis league around me. I used to play and liked it.
