Well I have started my weight loss journey and am looking to drop my weight down to 162lb's from 262lb's. I really want to do this for me but as motivation I am going to aim to do a skydive 1 year from today.

What hint and tips do people have for keeping motivated enough to continue with the weight loss?

I have lost 95 lbs so far over about 1.5 years and still have about another 15 or so to go. For me, the motivation came naturally after about the first month. Just be reasonable -

    - realize that it will probably take some time to lose
    - realize that you are changing your lifestyle, not just "going on a diet for a while" (I actually hate when people ask me if I am on a diet - no, I am in a healthy lifestyle)
    - realize that you will plateau and don't panic
    - realize that you will "screw up" occasionally and don't panic

    most importantly:
    - realize that no one can fix this but you

Maybe I just have a big ego, but once clothes started getting lose, people started commenting, and I could start to see signs of my body from my athletic days, the motivation is a self fulfilling prophecy.

My motivation was financial and practicality/laziness. Financial because it don't want to have to pay for medications for the rest of my life and I was getting close to starting. I have better things to spend my money on. Laziness because I am too lazy and it's too hard to be fat. It sounds weird but I don't want to expend the extra energy just to do the things I should be able to do naturally, like walk or breath or stand outside in the summer without sweating unnaturally. Being healtier, not just in better shape, just makes things easier.
