So what's more important?

I am literally just reducing and keeping an eye on my calorie, etc intake to reduce my weight. It seems simple enough; cut out most of the rubbish foods (I would never be able to eat completely clean), swap white breads, etc for wholegrain & wholewheat... That's fine, I get that, but what's MORE important: eating all my allocated calories, or not going over say my carbs or fat 'allowance'???

as long as you stay at the calories set you should loose weight.
after that how you make it up is up to you. the cleaner you eat the more good stuff you will get from your food which is pretty important long term.

It's hard in the beginning but you will learn to keep them all near set goals. If you find you keep going over in Protein or Carbs you can adjust them by five percent at a time to see what works better for you. Go to goals/change goals/ custom/ raise or lower and save changes.

If you have more than 10-15lbs to lose, carbs and fat make almost no difference in your weight loss. Is it good to be conscious of what you're eating? Absolutely, but if you are improving your overall eating habits, you don't really need to get very specific about macronutrients.

    Calories.
  • I read the other day that caloric intake accounts for 80% of weight loss, while exercise is the other 20%. It is a lot easier to restrict calories than to eat too many and try to work them off. Good luck!

as long as you are losing weight, i wouldn't worry about it. however, if your weight loss slows or you hit a plateau, you have something you can adjust.

Thank you everyone! :flowerforyou: I was this close *places finger and thumb about an inch apart* to having a freak-out and doing the unthinkable: turning off the laptop! :noway:  now I know for sure that until I get a fair bit smaller its quantity and not completely quality that I have to watch.

I aimed to get close (over or under) to my calories, over on my protein, and let the rest fall where they may. Dietary fat has nothing to do with body fat... just make sure it's from good sources, not deep fried Twinkies. And carbs are only a problem if you have problems processing them (diabetes, etc.)

It's closer to 80% diet, 10% exercise, and 10% genetic potential.

Now, now, the occasional deep fried Twinkie never hurt anybody... Everyday, yeah that would be a problem.
