Hello everyone well a quick story about muyself I am 21 and have been suffering with an eating disorder for the last 4 years and also depression for the last 11 years all steaming from my weight as I was always over weight as a child up until I was 16 then started starving using laxitives all the usual stuff. I lost 203 pounds fairly quickly but gained a serious amount of health problems and serious body dysmorphia since last year I have gained about 60 pounds after a scare where I thought I was having a heart attack due to starvation but now I can't stop eating and I am feeling even lower than I felt when I was starving I litterally hate everything about myself I am so overweight and everytime I try to diet I end up comfort eating I lost my job recently which didn't help but I was wondering if anyone else has gone through anything like this how did they overcome it? I just don't no how to lose this weight I no mpf works but I can't seem to stick to it more than a week and I don't want to get obsessed with calorie counting again I was thinking my a slimming club like weight watchers or slimming world would be better?? If anyone could help me I would be so greatful I feel so alone I dontt have anyone who understands or cares except my fiance who has been with me through it all but it still doesn't help when I can't even look at myself in a mirror please help ( sorry I no this was long)

I'm so sorry for what you're going through.
I've had an eating disorder myself and it is NOT easy. However, you cannot recover from an eating disorder and obsess about weight. These things are not compatible. It's important that you find a therapist who specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, this is the only help I had for recovery (I couldn't talk to friends or family about it).
Body dysmorphia is a horrible experience, and people don't understand the difference between "I'm fat" and "I feel fat". They think you are nuts and say "you're not fat!" but the reality is, your brain makes you FEEL "fat" and hearing things like "you're skinny" is not helpful. If anything, it's harmful. Body dysmorphia makes us look in a mirror and see something that is different from reality.
I do not think you should join a weight loss program until you have found a therapist to help you. Good luck!!0 -
So sorry to hear about your struggle. There are tons of supportive people on MFP. Have you had a chance to check out any of the "Groups"? You are definitely not alone here.0

Hi. I'm Diane. You are invited to join this group. Not sure if it is what you had in mind, but it helps me a lot. It is a non-judgemental place to talk about eating disordered behavior. I find it extremely helpful to talk to other people with similar struggles.
