I have developed back pain that isn't going away with the usual treatments and exercises. One person suggested I might be having a side effect of cholesterol medication. Another said it might be a herniated disc. I was wondering if anyone had experience with these issues, and especailly if losing weight cleared them up.

I can make a difference. I have had a severe case of scoliosis since I was a kid and when I am at a healthier weight I generally hurt less. Not totally gone however. I will always have some issues with it. But have heart it can do nothing but help you. I know very little about cholesterol medication so no comments on that. Here are a few ideas for you though. One is check out your local area and see if they have any aqua jog classes. That will not hurt your back and you can still get some movements in that will help stregthen your core. :)

Thanks. I actually do a water aerobics class several times a week and had been feeling better, but lately this additional pain has appeared and seems to be hanging on. No doubt I would feel a difference if I lost lots of weight. It is one of my incentives.

I had leg pain and fatigue from my cholesterol meds. Women are more likely to have those sides effects.

My husband had back pain was so bad that he stopped his cholesterol medicine a few years ago. He switched meds and no more trouble. Call your doctor to talk about other meds
