Hello everyone! :)

I think I am finally ready to start this journey to being more healthy. I am so sick of being overweight! Working in the healthcare field, I think it is important to practice what you preach. Much easier said than done! Pre-nursing school, I was overweight, but I was content where I was at. Post-nursing school - a whole different story! I am an emotional eater. When I was stressed out because of an upcoming test, I ate; when I was happy I did well on that test, I ate; when I was pissed off that I totally bombed the test, I ate. Ever since then, I have struggled. I work all different shifts, and when preparing to work a night shift, I am basically eating for 24 hours straight, and I do the same when coming off night shift. I have decided that working night shift for a fat girl - is TOXIC! I often find myself saying that I should 'treat' myself for having to stay up all night and work. Eating at all times of the day is not good for you. It is just a never ending cycle, and I can't seem to get off of it.

Is there anyone else out there in the same situation as me? Do you have any tips for me?

  • Though I don't do the same work as you, I do have the same problem. I will send you a friend request and we can help each other. I have found this to be the best way to lose weight (MFP) Logging what you eat and then seeing it really wakes you up and you start wantiing to make sure you don't eat over your calories. It's eye opening and the support on this site is exceptional.
  • I'm about to start school for EMT towards Paramedic and I eat to fill gaps in areas I'm lacking due to some residual effects from the war. you can add me or I'll add you either way.

Make sure you write it all down, for me at work I don't always eat right, but it keeps me on the right path if I've got to write it down. it also will motivate to exercise so you can eat more!
Good luck and keep it up!
  • Hi there,

I, too, am where you are mentally and emotionally. Let's start today. I awoke and met a trainer - you can see what we did under my profile, if you like. The hardest part of getting here was changing my diet. I've been eating much, much healthier in the past 2 months! Watch an episode of "You are What You Eat" with Gillian McKieth and it will make you (made me) sick. I bought her books and feel she is too strict; but, I've become more aware of my food selection. Try Quinoa - I absolutely love it. You prepare it just like rice ( 2 to 1 ratio liquid/seeds) and enjoy. Looks like "bird food" as my friends like to joke, but it is full of protein and essential minerals. And, I love to 'graze' on sweet baby peppers - I keep a bag at work to munch on all day. You may wish to consider "food combining" as recommended (but, not as strict) in "Fit for Life."

I'm determined and dedicated to making this work because I am very frustrated with how I appear to everyone in my life, not to mention I want to enjoy my life more than I am able to do with my weight and health.

Let's keep each other posted on progress. My goal is to be 215 by June 1st, which is faster than the tracking system recommends; but, this is what I want and hope to acheive.

    Good luck!
  • I understand you about emotional eating. I eat when Im sad or bored (which is horrible!) but I say chose your snacks wisely. I agree with others of write it all down! Good or Bad keep the trackon here so you know where it is and on your journey you can look bak and see those days and figure out what triggers you to eat more. on the notes write "exam week"!

Also find what works for you! I have a weight lose struggle b/c I do all those promational work outs then I end up hurting myself in a way that it sets me back for weeks! But dont give up!
I alone (being a P.I.T.A.) have been able to get my family to excersise more through example. My kids enjoy yoga with me, Bike riding with my husband and we all laugh at eachother dancing (trying to beat eachothers score).

    You Can Do THIS!
Anything you put your mind to. Its just gonna take time. Remember it took years to put on the weight....so it may take the same time to get it off.
Good luck Hun, and this is a great place to start.
