What would you do in this situation?

Okay, so Saturday was my 21st birthday. I had whole wheat waffles for breakfast, but then I went out for lunch AND dinner. I kept my meals as healthy as I could, but I also got a pina coolada. I had a tiny bit of easter candy that night (okay, more than a tiny bit), and then went to bed pretty early. The next day was easter, but I was feeling under the weather and had to work most of the day so I wasn't tempted by all the unhealthy food and candy my family had. For the most part, I had a decent day. But when I got home, I was miserable. I had a 103 fever and went straight to bed. Today I woke up feeling MUCH better. I had some toast with peanut butter for breakfast, a cup of chicken noodle soup for lunch, but now it's 8:30 and that's all I've had. I feel like complete crap again. To the point I don't see myself getting out of bed to make ANYTHING, even though I am starving. My family owns an italian restaurant, but the food isn't that healthy. I've only gotten food from there maybe 3 or 4 times in the past year, and normally it's just a salad or something along those lines. My mom is at the restaurant now and will be leaving soon and is more than willing to bring me something to eat. I don't want a salad because I'm freezing as it is. My throat hurts so I'm not up for a sandwich or something scratchy. I was thinking baked stuffed shells with light cheese, but of course my guilty conscious if kicking in. Advice?

Give your body nourishment, period. Eat.
  • Soup? Minestrone, maybe....

Maybe some soup and crackers? I know that generally helps me when I don't feel well! Feel better soon!

Ideally, I'd suggest you have some soup....of any kind. You haven't eaten much today, you wont go over by too much if you eat something from the restaurant. I'd eat whatever sounds good that you can eat with your sore throat. I always bend the rules on sick days. Feel better and happy belated birthday.

You need to eat something. While I wouldn't consider the option of shells and cheese a great option everyday, it may be what your ailing body needs. Go ahead and eat it slowly, rest between bites, control the amount and log it.

don't stress about it. Just treat it like it's food.

Exactly. Starving yourself won't help you start to feel better. It's ok to eat some unhealthy meals once in awhile.

Eat what makes you feel better. You burn more calories when you are sick anyways (made that up, but probably true)

Also....I'd see if your mom would be willing to pick up some apple sauce, or sugar free popsicles for you too.

When you're sick, give yourself a break. Don't go overboard obviously (i.e. don't have mom bring home a whole lasagna), but see to getting better, then worry about calorie deficits later.

Also....I'd see if your mom would be willing to pick up some whiskey, pudding, and a bag of skittles for you too

    fixed that for you.

Thanks, everyone! You all basically said exactly what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure if I was delusional from being sick, haha.

This should be a fact. Along with "Anything bought for the sake of charity or good will has zero calories". Lol.

Thank you! I forget that not everyone keeps whiskey on hand for emergencies like I do ;)

Bottom line is that it's a lifestyle choice. it doesn't matter whether you fall off the wagon or jump off, so long as you understand the consequences and realize that you will either stall your weight goals or possibly go a little backwards, and that you'll need to get back to doing things right sooner rather than later before bad habits come back with a vengeance. My personal philosophy is that a day or two now and then can be worth it; I don't expect that when I hit my weight goal I'll be the same every day so learning to deal with a binge or junk food or sweets is just par the course because real life sometimes happens to make eating perfect inconvenient.
