What does maintenance mean to you?

Just curious about everyone's opinions! I recently reached my goal weight, and then last night went out after work and over indulged in mexican food. Realistically, in maintenance mode, this is going to happen once a month. I was significantly over my maintenance cals, and of course up 1.5 lbs this morning (mostly sodium, I'm quite sure).

So this got me thinking. For maintenance mode, I'm going to make good decisions most of the time, but allow occasional indulgences. And I'm going to try to stay within a 5 lbs range. If I go above that range, it's time to get strict again for a few weeks.

How do you all handle it? And what does maintenance mode mean to you?

I still log everyday and try to stay within my calorie goal. I do indulge once in a while but I don't want to have to start over. I will keep logging as long as it's here.

I've been contemplating this myself, I'll reach my goal weight in about 2 pounds. I think I will continue to count my calories, because frankly...i'm a snacker and that can really add the calories up for me. I know how to make good choices and I do most of the time - but we all have out cravings and sometimes I just don't want to care how many calories I'm eating. Now that I have gotten my body stronger and fitter - I think maintenance includes continuing with that and for sure, I will - that is my new found passion.

I think it's fine to indulge every now and then as long as we don't get into the habit of over-indulging often.

    Hi Mand -

I am currently 4 lbs away of my goal. Hoping to have those off by June 1 and to enter maintenance at that point. I think that I will up my calories to a maintenance goal and will also allow myself splurges here and there as well.

Even now, I allow myself some smaller splurges, but always try to stay under or at my weekly goal. I think that my weekly goal will still play an important role.

I also plan to begin strength training in maintenance mode and to continue to improve my body!

Glad we're pals! Thanks for the continued support and congrats on your progress and reaching your goal!!

Looking forward to reading how this post progresses and what other's plans are!
