Vacation Tips

I'm going on a long-awaited vacation next week and am getting evermore stressed about not derailing my progress.
I won't be bringing my computer and I'm sure my cell phone won't work either, so I won't be tracking all week.
I will, however, bring my fitbit and hope the charge lasts the entire week.

I've made a lot of positive changes in terms of nutrition and exercise, but now that I'll be adding drinks into the mix (obviously), my anxiety about not knowing how much I'm over is getting a bit out of hand.

I really want to have fun on vacation. More than anything, I don't want to be the jerk who spent the entire time so focused on what I ate that I'll diminish anyone else's fun.

Does anyone have tips on how to stay on track while having a fun vacation? I realize that I may gain two or three lbs while I'm away, and can deal with that, I just really don't want to undo all the progress I've made.

What will you be doing on vacation? If you're going to be very active then you probably don't need to worry about it. This is a good time to practice eating well without tracking. If you've been here since last March then by now you should have a good idea of what is a reasonable serving of food, and be able to make wise choices - you may not know the calorie counts in each dish, but you know that a side of veggies has fewer calories than a side of fries, for instance, or that you don't need to get the extra cheese and a big dessert. It might help to keep a handwritten log of what you eat, if you think you should keep that habit going.

Thanks for the tips! I'm gonna be somewhat active. I'm planning to go swimming every day and I'm sure there'll be a great deal of walking.

I guess this will be a good test of being MFP-free. I'm allergic to dairy, so I guess I'll focus on eating plenty of veggies and try to stay active and hydrated.

May consider logging food on paper just to see how I fared on my own.

I find I gain 3lbs on vacation no matter how well I eat or how much exercise I do. When I went to Iceland I went on a 5 day hike through the mountains and still gained 3lbs :P I'm off to Dubai on Thursday and I'm not going to worry about it too much. You are confident that your eating habits are good. Vacation is a good time to be more lenient with yourself without completely falling off the wagon. The biggest problem that people have with vacation eating is OVEReating... Vacations often revolve around food. Plan meals ahead of time (look at restaurant menus and choose healthier options ahead of time) so you don't have to stress during the day. Drink lots of water. I'm sure the walking and swimming you're doing is going to make an impact.

I am a bit nervous about my vacation in a few weeks too. That said, i have been extra cautious to make sure I am super on track, so at least i'll be ahead of schedule before the trip. The resort I am staying at has a gym too so, I am def going to make time for that. Maybe Early morning while my husband is still sleeping lol. I am most worried about the unlimited alcohol and liquor dispensers that are in my Hotel room lol. yikes. luckily I am not a HUGE drinker but you bet your *kitten* i'll be enjoying myself. I will just plan an extra beach walk or something. Enjoy your trip!!! Eat the cake, just don't eat it all. lol
