I've read an article on High Intensity Interval Training and am thinking about trying it out for a while. I mostly do cardio at the gym and need to get to start doing more strength training.

Have you tried HIIT and if so, what did you think??

Thanks!!

A lot of people do HIIT. It's good but not the magic bullet to fat loss that people think it is. It's also can be difficult to do on your own as to be effective, you really have to push yourself to your limit. Most people don't really push enough.

Also, the afterburn effect (EPOC) is really no big deal. It's usually around 14% of calories burned during the activity. By the way, HIIT is cardio and not strength training.

yep. i do it often and i love it. your results will vary based on your intensities.

i do 2 types of HIIT

aerobic - where my heart rate stays within my mid range and a bit above. For these I usually do 2 minutes recovery and 1 minute more intense. workouts usually last 45 minutes. these workouts should be a bit uncomfortable especially during the intense minute.

anaerobic : these are my favorite. my heart rate is very close to my maximum. For these i will do 15 seconds of rest and 15 seconds of all out craziness. workouts usually last 12-15 minutes because i have nothing left past that time. these workouts should be severely uncomfortable

and if you have any health issues you want to check with your doctor before doing anaerobic HIIT
