I hate going vegetarian...

and no one getting what that means. I told my boyfriend's grandmother last night that the reason I brought my own food with me (avocado, ramen noodles, etc.) was because I am going vegetarian, and she and my boyfriend are big meat eaters, so I didn't want to stress them with trying to find something for my pansy diet, I s'pose.
Yesterday, I was telling her that the main reason I'm going vegetarian is to cut out fast food and junk food -- not that all meat is junk or even bad for me, but I'm less tempted to eat fast food and fried foods when I'm not eating meat at all.
Today, she made pork chops and veggies. T_T. I heard her tell Gary what she was making, and Gary mentioned, "What about Katie's diet?" She said, "Well, I'm not *frying* them". Le sigh. I know it's just a misunderstanding, but it's really frustrating. I can never keep to the goals I set for myself when I eat away from home because I'm either too meek to tell anyone, "No, I'm actually not eating that stuff for a while," or when they forget about what I've told them, I don't want to correct them and make them feel bad.
Anyway, I went ahead and ate what she prepared, but now I'm feeling a bit guilty for it. Not only have I faltered in my own goals, but by eating what was prepared, Gary's grandmother won't realize that... I'm really trying to avoid any meat altogether. Ugh-gh-gh. Does anyone else have this problem, or any similar problem, when they eat away from home?

It's really hard to stick to your goals when eating away from your own home. I spend the weekend with my family, and even though I come with all my own food for the day, they prepared me meals most of the time. I also have a newly discovered food allergy that is really tough to accommodate. My mom even prepared me my favorites, even though I really shouldn't have had them. My sister ordered pizza for lunch, but I can't have it anymore. I really felt bad at refusing anything, because they went through so much trouble to try! I gained 5 pounds from the weekend...
All you can really try to do is avoid getting into the situation as much as possible. Perhaps you can eat with your BF's grandmother as often? I know it's a hard thing to do, but some times you need to do what's best for you. Perhaps have a meal every other day or every 3rd day, and bring your own food the rest of the time. They have to respect your wishes too! It's not fair for you to always cave in to them and not the other way around. At least it sounds like you have your BF's support. That's good!0 -

Yeah, I spend a lot of time at my boyfriend's when I'm off work, so it can be really challenging to eat well when I'm here, and it's always a challenge to count my calories when I don't have all the nutritional information to everything prepared (and I don't want to put anyone through the trouble of searching through the trash through all the nutrition facts).
Luckily, she let me cook yesterday (potato soup!), and she liked it so well that she wants me to cook more often, haha, so that may make it a bit easier for me to keep track of everything..
