Total daily energy expenditure. Do a search for a thread titled TDEE is everything. You'll hopefully find Joe's write up.0

Total Daily *Energy* Expendeiture...I think it is energy without looking it up. Essentially your have a BMR which is a base line for the number of calories needed for your body to simply function...at coma level. You should eat this always. TDEE is an amount of calroies your body uses on a daily basis living your life. THis where your activity level is taken into account as a sedentary person needs less daily calories than an active person....there are many calculators to determine TDEE...MFP will give you a goal number to lose weight based on its calculations of TDEE then MFP determined an appropriate deficit for you to lose weight. If you exercise you make that deficit bigger. You will find a lot of advice that says to eat the calories "Earned" through exercise as you don't want to create a deficit that is too large and puts you into a situation in which your body is not receiving enough fuel to even function in a coma. I personally eat my exercise cals. I hope that was relatively helpful and not too jumbled0

It's hard to know without getting your RMR tested or having something like a BodyMedia Fit - but even those have a margin of error.
This site has the closest match to my TDEE based on RMR test and the numbers I see my BMF give me. I should caveat that by saying that I used the BF% calculation - the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism is, the other number is not so accurate for me!
