Hey

I was just wondering if any of you have been a soldier in Afghan because my boyf is over there at the moment. I keep sending him parcels but just wondered when you was over there what kind of things did you really want or really need? xxxxxxxxx

I never was, but my brother was. We used to send him small snacks, stuff for the shower and hygeine.

90% of the time he asked for bubbles, coloring books, crayons, stuffed animals, yoyo's,, goldfish crackers, and just stuff like small toys. He used to go out and pass the stuff around to the children of Afghanistan because most of them didn't even know what that stuff was and it put a smile on all of their faces to receive the toys.
I am guessing it also depends on what area he is in, because they are more strict in other areas of Afghanistan about talking to the children.

Tell your boyfriend thank you for all he does for our country :flowerforyou:

My son has been to Iraq three times now, and like the above poster, we would send him snacks and hygiene products alot. Letters and small gifts maybe. Usually I would just ask him to think about it and give me a list. There were a lot of times when the PX was out of certain items or had a hard time keeping them on the shelf and those are the things I would send him. Homemade cheescake brownies were one of his favorite and I'd send those also. Wipes was always a biggy with him too. (sand sand sand everywhere) And one of those small jet mops to clean his 'room' with, again because of sand and dirt. Hope this helps :)

I would like to thank all of our soldiers and their families and friends for making that sacrafice for our country. Words will never be enough.

When I was sending packages, I sent snacks that my friends liked, things that reminded them of home, pictures, simple stuff like toothpaste and toothbrushes, soap. For my female friends I sent their preferred products (if you get my drift) and wipes to make them feel cleaner. It's really the little things that make a difference.

Had a few friends out there.

We sent snacks (nothing that melts), photos and letters, magazines, lots of wipes and cleaning stuff. I baked a lot of treats too!

Tuna & chicken packets with wraps and lots of condiments, sauces, etc. 5 hour energy (buying online is way cheaper than buying at the store), salsa, nuts, jerky, letters, letters, letters...and pictures. Wishing your boyfriend a safe deployment! :flowerforyou:

My former brother-in-law is there right now. My husband was in Iraq in 2009.

i used to adopt deployed service men and women. i usually asked them what they either specifically wanted for themselves, or for their unit.

usually, it was things like snacks, socks, batteries, stuff for the children, notes from kids ( like thank you notes) movies, games, magazines, books, toiletries, wipes, powder, things like that.

i baked a couple times, but if the boxes took a bit too long home baked goods can go bad and moldy. it's SUPER hot there! if it melts in the trunk of your car on a normal day here, it will melt before anyone gets it over there. there is a lot of sand and HIGH HIGH temps.
