I was doing so well...

The last few weeks have been wonderful for me. I upped my caloric intake, and after a small plateau the pounds began to melt off. I hit the lowest weight I've been since I was in high school (155lbs) and was looking forward to getting closer to my ultimate weight goal of 145lbs.

But this week it's all gone wrong! I understand it's only Wednesday, but according to my scales I've gained between 3 - 5lbs back! Since Saturday!

I had a big family dinner this weekend, and even though I may have gone over I logged every last calorie. I've been more active this week than I have been in about three (school got busy, I became an aunt etc.) so could this gain just be water?

Any advice is appreciated!

Quick Details: am 5' 7.5" female, SW: 165lbs, CW: 157-160lbs, GW: 145lbs

I wouldn't panic. It's probably just water retention from that huge meal. If you keep making good choices this week, I'm sure things woll be closer to normal on your Saturday weigh-in =)

Just put it behind you. I can honestly say this because this is the kind of thing that has brought me back to square 1 every time. I would make some progress (sometimes 25-30 lbs down) and then I'd have one setback and say"forget it - this is too hard to figure out." Put it behind you, move forward and know that if todays decisions are correct then you will get back on your game.

Make a plan so that you aren't tempted to grab whatever not that your body might be craving the "holiday" type foods. (I know after holiday meals I always want to eat nothing but high fat and low quality carbs). You would have had to eat over 7000 calories in addition to your normal intake to gain 2 lbs. I doubt your meal was that big.

If you keep one foot in tomorrow and one foot in yesterday, you crap all over today. Be proud of your accomplishments and know that progress, not perfection is the goal.

It's actually virtually impossible for your body to put on that much fat in that amount of time (it's science). And given that you weren't drinking gallons of butter, I'm going to go with water retention.

I fluctuate four to five pounds in a day. Don't freak out. Just keep eating right and exercising and your body will get there.
