Hi All. I am new to MFP as I joined in March 2012. The first week I joined, I lost about 5.0 lbs, however, once I started exercising, the scale numbers have not been budging much. I do know that I am loosing inches around my hip area and my face/neck area is much slimmer. Need to find out how to begin loosing #'s again. Positive support would be greatly appreciated. Also, in responding, please make sure you're posts are not sarcastic or like the (duh thats rocket science type) posts.
Thank you
Thank you

5lbs is a lot and proabably mostly water weight...Keep on doing what you are doing, your body does not look at a calendar, it will do it's own thing in it's own time...
Good luck!0 -

What she said! What I always tell myself when I'm getting frustrated is "you didn't get chubby overnight and you are not going to get unchubby overnight!"0 -
I lost about 10 lbs in a month and a half (I had lost and gained that 10 lbs like 3 times the previous year so my body was used to it). In the month of January, my rate of loss slowed WAY down, I think because it was actually getting past the point where my body was used to being at.
I decided that I would NOT look at the scale for an entire month, I worked out almost everyday. I had a few days of food slip-ups but otherwise ate healthily and ate back all my exercise calories. By the end of the month, I had lost maybe .5 lb BUT my sister and friends had started commenting on how good I looked and asking me what I was doing... I FELT better because I looked more fit, and didn't worry about the scale.
But, since my weight loss had stalled I looked into eating less, eating more, exercising more.... and decided to EAT MORE (yay!) because I love food and KNOW that the body needs a lot more energy than we think. I changed my goal to 1 lb per week loss, then .5 lb per week and started seeing a small dip on the scale. Three weeks ago I started doing TDEE/BMR/something else research and now am eating between 2100-2400 calories per day (depending on if I worked out or not).
The first week I saw no loss, but the second week I was -1.4 lbs....
/life story SORRY!
Moral of the story: find what works for you... but make sure your body is getting enough energy! Try increasing your calories by a bit. Find your BMR (the minimum amount you should ever consume/ "if you were in a coma, this is how much calories they would give you just for body functions") and make sure you're eating MORE than that, and if you exercise, make sure you eat those calories too because your body will really appreciate that and won't eat up your muscle0 -

^ I love that phrase!
You're doing great so far! The scale hasn't really moved in 2 months for me, but I've lost 8 inches in that time around my body, so I'm pretty happy about that. Increasing exercise, watching your calories (try to get net calories to 1200 everyday), sodium, fat, and sugar, and drinking plenty of water all help. You'll get there0 -
I know that it can be frustrating for the scale not to move, but you are losing inches which is a much more important way of knowing what you are doing is working. The scale often does not move for 8-10wks for me, but I am always losing inches! I would much rather look like I weigh less than actual weighing that amount and look like I weigh more. The scale will move in its own time, try to not weigh yourself for a while and judge your loss on your inches:) The scale does not usually measure progress!0

My scale does not budge, my measurements do not shrink, and my appetite does not shrink.
It's been for months now ... I'm even lifting, reducing workout time from 6-times a week to 3-times a week.
It's really hard .... Seriously though, 2 weeks is not that much. Give it some time. If you keep doing the right thing, the results must follow.0 -
Keep in mind that when you start working out that you retain water to repair the muscle.0

Stop weighing yourself for awhile. I find it sets the mood for the day. UGGGGGGG0

I made my husband hide the scale for awhile and I am so much happier! I excercise a lot and the weight loss has been very slow for me. 20lbs in 8 months but I feel and look so much better. Try not to let the scale dictate you life. As long as I eat healthy and excercise then I know I am trying my best.0

It just happened to me. Two weeks of nothing, then suddenly 2 lbs in one week and then almost another lb in the last couple of days. Like someone suggested, I think my body got to where it's used to being. Now that I am trying to break below that, it's harder! Keep going and don't give up!0

Nice to know...hadn't realized this.0
