Substituting Equipment

I am on the 2nd stage of The New Rules of Lifting for Women. So far so good, but I am lacking low steps. My school gym has them, but they won't let you use them unless you're in a class.
I need them to do static lunges with my rear leg elevated, as we as wide-grip deadlift from a box. With the static lunge, I think I could use a weight or a medicine ball - The deadlift won't be so easy.
Suggestions?

so i think i understand what your trying to do, the static lunge with elevated leg sounds like a bulgarian split squat and the dealift is obvious, you can try a smith machine and set the bar low enough to rest the top of your foot on, search for plyo boxes, use a weight bench. or the saftey bars on a squat rack, all the above will work, good luck!0
