Does anyone determine the amount of calories they eat by what they burned that day? My BMR is 1541 and i subtract 1000 calories from that just so i always have 1000 calories not used that day. So whatever i burn that day plus my 541 calories i can eat. I normally burn about 600. Today i only did 500 since it was a recovery day. But other days i eat about 1200-1300 calories. What are you opinion on this? I dont go by the whole starvation mode since ive tried eating 1500 calories ive stayed at a stand still. But since ive lowered my calories ive started losing again. And ive just started this whole leaving 1000 calories to see if i can lose a little faster :)

  • I don't know the exact ins and outs, but it's generally considered a good idea to make sure you have consumed AT LEAST 1,200 calories per day. So if you eat 1,500 cals but then burn off 600, you need to eat back enough calories to at the very least hit 1,200 x

BMR = The minimum amount of calories your body needs in order to function fully and healthfully when doing NOTHING (lying in bed breathing... that's it. Not even getting up and going to the bathroom). You're not supposed to take your deficit from your BMR. The deficit comes from your TDEE.

I would calculate your TDEE and then subtract 1000 from that - there's your total calorie intake goal per day.

1200 is a standard "good" calorie minimum, per day. Eating anything less, even with no exercise that day, is questionable and likely problematic. Where would your nutrients be coming from? How are you feeding your muscles? Etc., etc.

The URL below will take you to a great BMR + Calorie Intake calculator. Keep in mind, you're supposed to EAT the calories it says to eat, in order to eventually hit your goal weight. So, don't subtract anything from it - just set this as a calorie goal for yourself (even if it says you should be eating 2,000 calories) and workout as usual. You'll get there (the healthy way).

Clearly you did not do something right when you were eating above 1200 calories (eg: You ate 1500 calories but you burned off 500-600, hence you are still below your net 1200 calories>?!) Your current "progress" if you can call it that isnt really progress at all, rather your body slowly dying. Any person who eats below 1200calories at the BARE MINIMUM (I eat 2500 calories+) are a ticking time bomb. Your forcefully wiring your body to only survive on a small amount of calories, and as soon as you eat a TINY bit more your body will instantly turn that into fat to save it for a rainy day.
