Multivitamin - Calcium and Iron

Ok so I know that Calcium and Iron block the absorption of one another....so WHY do they put them together in multi vitamins?? I'm basically peeing it all out right? (As Sheldon puts it, I'm producing really expensive pee) Or am I wrong? Do I need a separate calcium and iron supplement to take at different times of the day? I'm borderline anemic AND I'm Asian with a mom that has really bad osteoporosis so both of these are huge concerns for me. HELP!
