How much fat should I eat?

I have a pretty simple question. I'm diabetic, and not on much for medication, so my carb count is very, very important to keep my sugar under control. So to get my calories I basically eat protein, fruit and veggies, and usually one carb choice per meal. I've found that eating nuts, eggs, etc has put me over the 30% mark quite often.

Is this normal for anyone else or should I try to get that number within the preset restraints?

I wouldn't worry too much about your fats, as long as most of them are good fats (eggs, nuts, avocado, etc), which is what you seem to be doing. I'm almost always over on my fat (which is mostly from dairy), and I don't sweat it. If you stay close to your calorie goal, you should still be on track to lose weight. If you're still concerned about it, try using egg whites, or find some lower fat nuts (you might have to do some research on this).

Thank you, that's what I was thinking. I'm still losing plenty of weight and it is mainly good fats (still trying to find a type of dressing that I like besides ranch, lol). But besides that it is from nuts, eggs, or lean meats.

I agree with the other poster.

I'm not diabetic, but I follow a diabetic-type diet (lower overall carbs/lower GI foods and mostly from nuts, veggies and fruit) since I have PCOS.

Honestly, the only thing I've been following IS my number of carbs and I usually look at my total calorie count (I try not to go over too many days). I also like to see my protein number higher, but I NEVER pay attention any more to my fat count and I've still lost weight.

    Good luck!
    :) Jane
