Where to learn about protein?

I see lots of talk about protein shakes etc and am absolutely clueless. Can anyone point me in the right direction to somehwere that explains it and whether or not it's something I should be looking in to?

I'm only trying to drop about 10lbs but more than the weight I want to change the shape of my body to become more defined and actually get some strength and fitness. I currently can only fit in 40 minutes at the gym 5 days a week and am only doing cardio in this time. Have also started the 30day shred so aiming to do shred one day, gym the next. Is it worth me looking in to?
