Motivation to wake up early..

Hello all!

How do you guys do it --if you work out in the morning? I have been attempting to get out of bed early, but I can't force myself out of bed. It's hard enough waking up at 700 to get to work which takes me approximately an hour from where I live. I would love to wake up early and start the day off with the 30 day shred from Jillian Michaels. Do you guys have any tips, recommendations, anything..? If so I am willing to take all the advice I can get!

Many thanks in advance!

I made myself get up earlier. I get up at 4:30am now. After the first day and how great I felt I was hooked immediately. I felt good and my day went that much better. 5 weeks later I haven't looked back. Going to bed between 8-9 and still getting 7-8 hours of sleep. That works for me!
  • I have been trying for a while to exercise in the early am but it's always a short burst of early morning wake ups and then it affects my days. Some people just aren't morning people. But if you really want to do it you will. I just takes some getting used to. Once you fully commit to the AM workout you'll be unstoppable. I've started by walking my dog when I get up instead of just bringing him out and I notice a difeference in my mornings.

I used to get up @ 0540 to make it to work @ 0700. Then I decided to get up an hour earlier to make it to the gym every morning. Yes, that involves generally going to bed at least an hour earlier than I used to do. So far, it's been one of the best decisions of my life (shortly after that I decided that I might as well start tracking calories and lose weight if was going to be putting that much effort into working out)

What helps me is set your alarm clock on the other side of the room... that way you physically have to get up to turn it off... and once I'm awake enough to walk across the room to turn off the alarm clock, then I'm usually awake for the day... so if I don't go to the gym after that then I've been awake the whole time for nothing

Thanks guys! I will try this in the morning--the hard part for me is falling asleep early. I've been going to bed around 10:30 this week, but it differs..depending if I'm working on case law or just reading a good book.

  • Wow, it's great to hear about all the people who get up early to work out! Do you eat breakfast before the work out or after?

I have my freshly juiced fruit & veggie juice w/ chia seeds and a pre-workout mix @ 30 minutes before my morning workout. My workout is easy though just 30 minutes on the stationary bike.

I just think about how amazing I will feel once it's over and I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day. I often go to a cycling class at 7:15 and don't want to wake up for it, but after going a few weeks and knowing how great I feel afterwards, i want to feel that way and that's a huge motivation... oh yeah and lots of coffee afterwards

my plan is to do the 30 day shred in the morning to get out of the way--and then hit the gym afterwards for weights/or any class like spinning, body pump, or boot camp.

After for me.... Otherwise, it will likely come back up. I've seen this discussed before, and it always seems about an even split between before/after - personal preferece.

If you haven't given up coffee, (and like it) program your coffee pot to brew a few minutes before you wake up. Makes it that much easier to get out of bed, and I find it quite hard to sleep with the smell of coffee in the air, my brain is used to perking up once I smell it. Pretty sure one cup of coffee may also help you be more vigorous in your routine. :)
  • I get up between 5 and 5.30a.m to get my workout in because I have 5 kids and it's madness when everyone is up. They will most likely say, "it's cold in here" because I've got the door open as I'm sweating like a pig (do pigs sweat? ) so I'll have to close it and feel like passing out 'cos I'm so hot or my youngest, who is 3, will say something like, "mummy, your tummy is bouncing up and down when you jump" so I now workout in peace :drinker:
