If you have an English Degree, what is your job? My brother is unemployed and needs inspiration! He's not quite sure what he wants to be 'when he grows up' (he's 40 :blushing: )

I have a degree in English and started out as a scientific editor for an academic journal. Now, I am a technical writer for the government. I started out both writing and editing, but over time developed a love of editing. It's a great gig! Wish him the best.

Technical Writer here. I originally was going to teach, decided not to; then went into Corporate America. I've been a Tech Writer for over 10 years in differing disciplines.

I double-majored in English and Political Science and am now working as a Human Resource Consultant. Totally unrelated, I know.

Thanks for the ideas. In addition to his Bachelor's degree, he does have a publishing certificate, so something in publishing might be the way to go.

Technical Writer here too! Been writing for 13 years in varying types of environments (manufacturing, PR, training, corporate communication, etc). Currently I write for a software company.

100% of my friends that got a degree in English (I'm talking about people I went to school with, not MFP people) are English teachers now. Literally all of them.

I'd rather die a slow painful death than be a teacher (props to teachers, I just could NOT do it), so to me being a technical writer/editor/publisher---that all sounds way more awesome.
