Polar FT7 question.
I have been thinking about getting a HRM for a while now. Really, what I want is something like the Bodybugg but doesn't come with a subscription to use it. I know there is the fitbit, but not a fan of the design and all its qualities (Even though it is very useful and have heard alot of good about it).
Really though, I like what the Polar FT7 has to offer, but it only seems like you should use it when your working out. If I got it, I was wondering if I could wear the chest strap all day and not just during work outs? That's why I really like the bodybugg, because you don't have to take it off very much (but as I said before not a fan of the subscription.)
Also, if anyone knows of a product like the bodybugg without a subscription feel free to chime in! Thanks and appreciate the help.

I have an FT7 and love. it. You could wear it all day and get an idea of how many calories you are burning in a day but MFP will already give you a pretty good idea of that. I also think it depends on what you want to use it for. I run, swim, bike, and cross train. I am currently training for my first triathlon and I have not ran into a situation where I have been missing a feature (except GPS of course but I use my Iphone for that).
I monitor my heart rate through out my workouts to see how hard I am working and to get an accurate count of my calories burned. If you use a online calculator, you will be overestimating by at least 20%! If you go up to the FT40 it has a program to do a fitness test that will give a good estimate of your VO2 Max. That will help you set your zones for training but the price is a bit steeper.
Polar is also the leading brand for HRMs. If you look around on here, you will find that alot of people recommend/swear by them. You can include me in that group as this is my second Polar HRM. I ruined the first with an improper battery change and a pool.
Hope this helps!0 -
thanks for the detailed reply! Yeah, I am probably over selling the wearing it all day thing. IT would be nice. but the more I think about it. It really wouldn't do me much good. I am a big stats guy, which is why I like getting as much info as I can gather, but I can tell if I use the Polar FT7 I should get what I want out of it.
I think I Will buy it off amazon. its 70$ right now on there, and if I don't get what I Want out of it their return policy is good so no real risk in getting it i suppose. Thanks for the input smbkrn0 -
I got my Polar FT7 on clearance @ Meijer for $36 and love it so far. I wear it quite a bit, sometimes even during the day. No problems yet.0
