working hard, eating right and gaining, PLEASE give advice..

Hi all, I have been working very hard to lose weight...I started on January 1st and was dropping and average of 4 pounds a week with just a change in diet (weight watchers) I decided to start working out and went with p90x as I have in the past. I went from 4 pounds to 2 pounds and then nothing.( total weight loss since Jauary is 22 pounds, mostly in January) for 6 weeks NOTHING! I know muscle weighs more then fat, I understand that, but still, I find it hard that the scale does not move. So, I did 30 days lean scedule and then switched to regular scedule, I start week 7 Sunday. I can tell you a few things, I push hard in my workouts, I do NOT quit until I can not push the weights or what ever it is, you can count on 1 hand how many workouts I have missed since I started. So when I started I was eating apx 1500 to 1800 calories and 100 to 125 grams protein, after a few suggestions I uped my calories to apx 2500 but I watch protein more then that, I get atleast 200 grams protein now and guess what......scale went UP! I get most the protein from gnc whey protein shakes I make, eat mostly grilled boneless skinless chicken breast, I cut carbs and avg of 125 on them. I also drink apx 120 ounces of water a day, up until last week I also drank 68 ounces of diet pepsi, but have cut that to 24 ounces...to sum my diet up I try to eat things with 1 ingredient, limit red meat, rarely drink beer, I do not eat anything fried, and try to get mostly complex carbs in the carbs i do eat...also try not to eat carbs 3 hours before bed. 1 last tid bit, I am 37 years old, 5 foot 8 and weigh in at 277 pounds. I am getting very angry at the situation and I appreciate any and all advice, sorry for the length of this, but thank you to anyone who helps have a great day

Well if 2500 is not working for you then why don't you lower it?0

1500 to 1800 wasnt enough....and it is very hard to get 200 grams protein with any less calories0

It's been a while, but I recall reading about a lot of people seeing pretty much no weight loss with P90X until well into month 2. Are you noticing other positive changes?0

Cut your carbs to under 50. Your workouts will suffer but the weight will come off. It's not easy but it works.0

Why are you eating so much protein? That sounds like a lot even with so many workouts. Personally , I would lower that a bit, and get the protein from food not a powder. Have you checked the amount of sodium in the powder? You are doing great at lowering your soda but keep going until you are down to none, or one a week as a treat. Are you doing P90X as your sole exercise? If so, it is time to change it up. Stop doing it and switch to a different cardio or use a different dvd or program. Try doing 1 or 2 days a week where you eat less, maybe around 1500 and have a day where you do about 3000. Changing it up so your body doesn't know what to expect, your body gets into a routine, so by changing it up, should help. I have also heard that things like P90X help more lose inches rather than weight. Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat, a pound of something is a pound, regardless of what it is. Muscle takes up less space, helping us look leaner and much more toned. Are you watching your sodium? That is big for many people. I didn't look at your diet as to what you are eating but maybe you need a bigger variety of things. I hope something works for you soon, I get your frustration. I gained 2 pounds this week. I know mine is from easter candy and desserts and I know what to do to change it! I just need to refocus.0

By the information you have given, my resources indicate that you should be consuming 165 grams of protein and to loose weight you should consume 2000 calories and a min. of 140 oz. of water and a min. of 25 grams of fiber. Now remember when you burn calories you add those calories to your intake so if you burn 300 calories a day you should consume 2300 calories. I hope that this is helpful. Best of luck with your challenge, I see you and I are both in the same age range and need to loose approximately the same amount of weight. Keep in touch and we can cheer each other to our goals. I did some research and also talked to a coach of p90, they recommened you take your body weight times 1 on weight days, then times .8 on cardio day.. p90 has both, 3 days weight and 3 days cardio, I also do 10 to 15 min cardio on weight days. It takes an hour for p90, with a wife and 2 small kids that is about the max workout time I can get. I am thinking when I complete 90 days of I may do 3 days insanity and 3 days lifting. as far as inches, I lost a lot of them in phase 1, but havent saw them move since March 20th. thanks again for the tips0

I can only tell you my experience with P90X. The first round I lost 20 lbs. Started at 225 dropped to 205. Most of this came off towards the end of the program. While my expectation was that I would lose more, I was pleased with the changes in my body. I recently completed a second round and didn't lose any weight, but experienced even more changes in my body, added over an inch to bicep, for example.
I know how you feel wanting this change to be faster, I would encourage you to complete the P90X, you already have 7 weeks invested; see how the last 6 weeks go. The first time through for me I did double workouts the last thirty days; again, that is when I saw the biggest weight loss. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or just want to vent.0 -
for sodium I added it up, I am around 1000 mg a day on avg0

one more thing, I have also been told bmi dont matter? but that number has dropped, I have one of those scales that measures that....but then i was told that really dont mean anything. I was disappointed because atleast that number was going down! haha, what does that mean?0

As good as the program is, I think the infomercials give some people unrealistic expectations of what one round of P90X can do. For some of us it will take much more time to be infomercial material. Keep at it, you will get there.0
