What do you put gym pump classes down as in MFP? I put it down as weightlifting last time, but that doesn't seem right as it gets up a massive sweat and your HR goes right up?

I have a HRM which I use during Pump class.

I consider Pump to be a cardio class rather than weightlifting.

    Maybe resistance training?

Out of interest, how much are you burning in a class? A ballpark would be great :)

Circuit training is pretty decent one to use... Muscle pump/body pump classes are more cardio than weights. I created my own using this site http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc Then I just enter in my own exercise and use that.

I burn between 350 and 425 per class.

I do squats during the lunge track though as I've got a dodgy knee.

    Are squats easier than lunges?

I find lunges really painful - they hurt the side of my supporting foot - any tips?

I was actually wondering if I could use pump as cardio and not weight training. So if that is the case can I lift heavy 3 days and do pump workouts 3 days a week for cardio?

There aren't any laws against it, however I could not. I would not be getting the rest I need to recover from my strength training workouts

I would count it more as a cardio exercise rather than weightlifting. Circuit training would probably be more appropriate.

When I go to bodypump I burn (using a HRM) around 520 calories in the hour. I'm 5'8 and 146lbs.
When I lift at the gym I burn on average 400 for the same length of time (depending on the exercises that day)

I had knee surgery 6wks ago, and my surgeon/physio said no lunges for me. Squats with no weight on for now.

I find squats don't hurt my knee as much.

My tip would be to get your form checked, by either the instructor or a PT at the gym. Better to have correct form than to injure yourself.

And to the other poster who was asking about alternating pump/lifting heavy. I DO count Pump as Cardio, but I still leave a rest day between Pump and lifting heavy. HOWEVER, as I'm coming back from injury, I only lift heavy twice a week.
