Finally starting to post

Hi fellow MFPers!
been on the site for roughly a year, and have enjoyed reading topics, learning more about diet and exercise, and seeing some of the AMAZING transformations in the success stories forum. I've finally decided to start contributing and posting.
i have to say that this community is so kind and supportive...you guys and gals rock!

my long story short...
i gained weight after my wife had our son, and i peaked at 242. it was def the worst shape i'd ever been in. i tried fad diets off and on...atkins, southbeach, soup only, salad only...i failed every single time.
i decided that 2012 had to be my year....i need to get back to fighting weight (which i'm thinking is around the 200lb mark).
MFP has been SUPER helpful and motivating.
so i'm counting calories, watching my portions, avoiding junk, and exercising.
i'm doing a 5k obstacle course race on the 28th of april, and am really motivated to finish (hopefully not dead last).
that will be a serious NSV for me.

Thanks to the community for what i've already learned and will continue to learn!
