Offroad Duathlon June 10, 2012

Hi everyone!
I went crazy and decided to sign up for an offroad duathlon in the Minneapolis area on June 10, 2012. I've run quite a few 5Ks and mountain bike often. However, this duathlon is: 5K run, 9.4mi bike ride, 5K run... all on a single track trail. I know the trail decently well and it is TOUGH. I'm not sure why I thought this was even possible for me, but I'm trying to prove to myself that I can do anything that I really put my heart into... I have NO time goals, I just want to be able to cross the finish line NOT on a stretcher! :)

Anywho... my question is... has anyone trained for something similar, and if so, how did you do it? I have less than 2 months, so I'm a bit nervous that I can't do a full training program. Also, since the track isn't conveniently close to my house (30 min drive), I can't train more than once a week on the track. I don't know of any similar tracks nearby, either!

So I'll have to make do with pavement running and biking. Is this crazy to think that doing this will prepare me for the duathlon?

Any encouragement... answers... anything, are welcome and appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance.

First thing first: Don't say I can't do a full training program, you can!

Do you have access to any mountian trails that near your house for training on the weekend?

I have not done an off-road races but how I train for my races as follows
Mon/Wed - Ride bike to work
Tue/Friday - Run before work, weights after work
Thursday - Run before work, swim after work
Saturday - Full Training day, long rides, runs and swims
Sunday rest - maybe a DVD at home.

I try to make my saturday workout as close to the lenght of my race as possible.

Good Luck and you can do this!

Thanks! I do have access to a trail closer to my house, but it's a lot easier than the one we'll be doing the duathlon on. We are able to make it to the actual trail at least one day a weekend, but since that's less than 8 times between now and then, that won't be enough to get my really comfortable!

Thanks for showing me your schedule - I think I can do all of that! I'm starting my last 30 days of Turbo Fire on Monday as well, so I think I'm either going to put that off (I don't want to...) or just work out like crazy for the next month doing running/biking/TF. I guess we'll see what my body can handle without getting injured!

Also thanks for the encouragement -- I need as much as I can get :)
