Foods do not fight belly fat. Sorry. Any claims to the contrary are based on myth or mis-understanding. The media doesn't help :( Neither does Dr. Oz. They take good scientific articles and misrepresent them, misinterpret them, and claim that foods/supplements/whathaveyou have magical properties when really they don't. Most of them are good, healthy choices... but not magic at all. They don't do anything beyond supplying nutrients to your body.

While the foods listed sound yummy, they have no special belly-shrinking powers. Neither does sucking in your gut a few times day. No need for all these rules and weird rituals. Just eat and exercise.

I love your new hair color, Glados!!! And your comment is right-on, of course :)

Did you even read the article??? It was just a helpful list of facts and study results that aaahhheeemmm....help you lose fat and give the reasons why. Of course these things could be incorparated into a healthy diet and lifestyle. I read this article prior to it being posting and found it interesting. If it's not for you, why bother disagreeing with proven studies on some forum board cuz apparently what modern medicine and science says isn't is good as your opinion.

Thanks for sharing the article, worth the read.

Why bother disagreeing with "proven studies"? For several reasons:

    1) Because the presentation of the studies by the media are simply wrong... and wrong information should be corrected. Example of 'wrong'? That bit about monounsaturated fats. Monounsaturated fats are fabulous... but not because they are controlling insulin spikes. As far as I know, they don't do anything to insulin.

    2) Because misrepresentations can actually harm a person's over-all well-being. I know a certain young lady who puts lemon in her water every morning because she believes it helps burn belly fat. Meanwhile, she lives off of bread and cheese. Not that bread and cheese are bad... but veggies are pretty important too. So is exercise. But she doesn't eat veggies and she doesn't exercise. Point is, she invests time in a pointless ritual thinking it will somehow save her. Meanwhile, she is eating a diet deficient in nutrients.

    3) Because the notion that ONE study represents "proven" science is absurd. I live and breath science. There are good studies and bad studies, but "proven" doesn't happen until years and years worth of science has all added together to produce the truth. Even then, someone might come along and successfully challenge the dogma and you're back to square one.

As a scientist... I strongly advice you: please don't believe everything you read. If it sounds too good to be true, if it sounds like a quick fix... it's probably not true at all and while it might not hurt you, it's not gonna be the fix you are looking for.

I actually found this helpful. True, some may not be true, but it was indeed an interesting read.
I already drink green tea everyday, since I am half Japanese, my family drinks it everyday. So that's an easy one for me.
I personally LOVE oatmeal so again, got that one checked off.
Not a fan of eating Bananas on itself..it has to be with something. (I love Banana Bread, lol)
    Anyways..Thanks for sharing.

Actually, if you have a distended gut then sucking in your belly can help as it will activate and strengthen the TVA and then pull the stomach in. This is a technique that has been incorporated by bodybuilders for a very long time and they simply called it vacuums. Frank Zane is quite famous for it.

I dont think anyone "tore her a new one". If I post something saying - Visine will make your thighs thinner I would think it may be challenged. Some information out there is blatently false. And there is nothing you can do to spot reduce any type of fat. People are simply pointing out inaccuracies in the article. And unless the OP wrote it herself she shouldn't take it personally. In fact she should be glad that this community is actually full of knowledgable people that can share information.

No one "tore her a new one". Let's not be silly. People refuted the claims of the article. Nobody attacked the OP.

Drama and over-reaction increase stress. Stress hormones increase fat gain and abdominal fat storage. I implore you in the name of all that is 6-pack to not freak out about stuff that doesn't matter, isn't true, or is exaggerated. Calorie deficit...real food you like...etc. And responding to facts (people disagreed with OP) not to hyperbole, assumption, or opinion ("tore her a new one") can help you be effective in managing stress, navigating social relationships, and finding peace. And peace means fewer stress hormones, which means...

We could really do "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie" with this stuff about inaccurate or inane diet advice from women's magazines all the way to abdominal fat. Care to proffer another possible route?

Wow. I haven't even read through all of the comments because I am appauled as to the way people act on this website. My reasoning for posting this was because I thought it was an interesting article, not because I live by it. The fact that people are actually arguing on my post, really saddens me. I cannot believe the way some people think. If you don't like or agree with the article that's fine. But keep your negitive posts to yourself. I have NO negative friends on this site and it saddens me to think that I can no longer post a topic without attracting negative people. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. I don't know how many times I have come across a post that I didn't agree with. But I would never post something negative, I just turn my head.

For everyone else who was intrigued by the article, thank you for reading.

I cannot believe the way some people think it's negative and harmful to dispel dieting myths for the benefit of others who have yet to learn.
