I just started exercising in the gym and the trainer/overseer gave me the same info you all have shared, so this confirms it for me. My target HR is 109-143 and when I am exercising, I am always in the zone, but sometimes bottom and sometimes top~ Elliptical keeps me high, stepper (recumbant) not so much and recumbant bike on hilly trails really gets me going! I love these machines and have noted weight loss in my face and limbs since starting less than a week ago. Others have noticed too. I have a question about this. I am sure it is water weight, because I have been sweating profusely during exercise in the past two days, but does exercise REALLY do this much for most people when they start??

Before I was walking maybe .75 miles at a time one or two times a week and before that was completely sedentary, as I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on March 6.

I just want to know that I am "normal", so please let me know how your first week at the gym affected you!

It's probably a combo of water, toning muscle so it takes up less space, and some fat loss. Please be careful since you had a hyst. I had a lap in Dec and still feel it when I do aggressive workouts.

What's "normal" for one isn't necessarily "normal" for another. Just listen to your trainer and soak up as much info as you can from him/her. That's their specialty. There are too many variables involved to really give a concise answer. For me, the only thing I noticed in the first week was that my skin got a nice bright healthy look to it, and still does. That's from the exercise and water consumption. Good luck.

Its not uncommon for your body to adjust to the change in the first week and see a large loss of weight (albeit water)
