So I was going to skip dinner....

....but I decided I really shouldn't. I went out for lunch today (I go out maybe 2 times a month). We did Pizza Hut. Not cool at all. I went over, and it wasn't pretty. However, it was delicious at the time. So I thought I'd just skip dinner and wouldn't feel as bad.
Fast forward to this evening....I was hungry. So I ended up eating a Strawberry Chobani w/ a little bit of Kashi in it. Also some baby carrots w/ some greek yogurt ranch dip (ranch seasoning is home made). So there's another 300 calories total.
Question is: Should I have just skipped dinner?
A side note: About a half hour after we ate, I felt horrible and bloated....not fun LOL. I learned my lesson :blushing:

Sounds like you were hungry. So no. Eating dinner was okay. Just log everything like it was a normal day and move on.0

Never hold yourself back, if you are hungry. Tomorrow is a new day.0 -
Never skip a meal! If your hungry, eat and move on... We have all went over and it's fine! You body obviously needed it...0

I think you did right by listening to your body and still eating dinner, just a smaller one. Gets you right back into eating sensibly because you won't have to wake up super starving tomorrow.0

U should always eat when your feeling hungry, well as long as its actually hunger. Also, skipping dinner would mean you would of went a long time in between eating, which also isn't very good. SO eating dinner was good.0

No, skipping meals will just crash your blood sugar and cause you to be hungrier later, and you'll end up eating something you regret even more. Those look like 300 well-invested calories to me.
If you go over, you go over. Don't sweat it, and don't make up for it. You can have a lighter meal (which you did), but you really don't want to skip breakfast or dinner - it means the body hasn't had any food intake in too long.
Remember, even if you go over by 1000 calories in a day, that's one day's progress toward a 2-pound-a-week plan (or two days for a 1-pound-a-week). So while you don't want to make a habit of it, you certainly shouldn't feel bad about it or try to skip important meals just to try to meet a single day's limit.0 -
THANK you all so much! I know I should just feel good about the choices tonight & listening to my body, but this is why I love MFP....because there's so many that are ready to validate your choices. I know we shouldn't need validating, but it just HELPS!
Tomorrow is a new day and I'm ready for it :-) Guilt be gone!0 -
I did something similar today.... Only I am not feeling hungry. I wonder if I should eat some fruit, because I know it is not good to skip dinner. Or should I just go on to bed?.... Which is what I would really like to do.0

You shouldn't skip meals, and from what you said (300 cals) it was a small one. So I think you'll actully be better off having it than not. I'm experimenting with breaking my meals up over 5 or 6 times a day (same calories and food, just spred out.) I'll let you know how it goes! Good luck! And never feel guilty for indulging once in a while (I think you said you only go out like twice a month.) so enjoy those times and work hard all the others! (I mean even god took 1 day to rest, right?)0

I don't ever skip meals. If my body is asking for food, I need to give it to it, even if I'm already over. Ignoring your body's natural signals can just lead to all sorts of issues in my opinion.
If you have a bad meal, just move on. Get back on track, have some water, and do better on your next meal. You won't undo all your progress with one bad meal.0 -

I have the same problem at times. In that situation, I'd have a small salad or some protein, maybe some almonds. You don't want to wake up starving.0 -

I have been doing the small meals more times a day as well - When I was REALLY doing that every day, I felt better and I was seeing more changes. I need to get back to that. I also felt like I was constantly eating and was never SUPER hungry, so the small meals/snacks took me longer to eat. :-)
Thanks again everyone for the "feel good" comments! :flowerforyou:0 -

Thanks! I did end up going to bed without eating last night. I still don't feel hungry. I am going to make myself have a small breakfast though, and LOTS of water today. I just didn't feel like eating, and then thought I should eat something. Then I got busy making potatoe salad for a BBQ today, and before I knew it it was already 12am. I still wasn't hungry so I just went to bed. Today will be a diffrent day.0
