Guys opinion wanted -- leg muscles

Since really stepping up my running, adding biking, and starting weight training, my legs have "muscled up" a lot. I'm working on some butt "problem areas," but it will get there. So, I am now starting to get that "shelf" muscle on the front of my thigh. I don't like it. I think it makes me look "thick" through the thighs. Unfortunately, I am not sure how to stop it and continue the workouts I do. My husband LOVES this muscle...thinks is is very sexy. I know I should just be happy about it and not worry (since he doesn't care), but I still wonder what other people think (particularly men). I had this discussion with some girlfriends and they think it is stupid to care what other men think, but I don't agree. I love my husband, but I don't want to be attractive to only him. Anyway, thoughts from men....do you like muscular legs?

 Yes, I don't mind muscle but anatomical diagrams make me a bit ill.
I think that's perfect. Is it as they are in your third photo? Nothing wrong with those legs at all!0 -

Thanks! I think they are slightly more muscular...but that's the basic look.0 -
What kind of Leg Workout are you doing to get that ? I am working out 4 days a week running 5k each time, but I really had to work up to it, So I am working on losing weight and building muscle, plus doing squats, calf raises, and seated leg extension .....any tips on more leg stuff ?0

That's what legs are supposed to look like. The only way to stop it is to stop running nag biking and let them get weak again.0

If you're unsure about whether your legs should be muscular or not: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/12/prweb9054696.htm
Repeat after me: Strong is the new skinny!

How heavy are you squatting? They should be hard enough to make 3 sets of 6 reps just about do-able. Not sure about running but you should see some changes even if the ground isn't variable.
I'd do some research into the use of machines. Some say they are not good on the knees as the knees aren't supposed to bear load but transfer it.0 -

Im not anyone to talk, but I think that the girl in the top picture's legs are perfect. If thats what your getting then great. If her legs were thicker, I would reccomend to try and slim them down. For YOU. Not everyone else. I don't know how to do this as I am fighting my own battles. This is just my opinion response to your question. Take care!0 -
I'm all about function over form at this stage. My arms and legs are significantly bigger than they were when I was younger, but that's because I'm a lot stronger... more fit and more capable of doing the kinds of things I love to do.
So... I could have legs like a gazelle, but get completely spent hiking three miles, or I could have stronger, more muscular legs that can easily run twice the distance. I'll take my bigger legs, hands down. Don't really give a damn if anyone finds it more or less attractive than my old skinny legs. It's my body, my vehicle to get through life. And now... I even prefer the more muscular look on myself. I'm not even sure how much is from an aesthetic point of view or from appreciation of what my body is capable of doing, but I don't want to go back to skinny legs. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/551109-that-was-then-this-is-now-14-years-later-with-pics0 -

Those legs (in the top pic) look great, nothing wrong with them!
My bf's favourite body part on a woman is legs. He prefers them slightly bigger/chunkier than average, as long as they're not really flabby (not muscle definition at all) or like a male bodybuilders he is happy (and his definition of "too much muscle" is A LOT higher than you'd think) If I showed him that top pic, he'd be like0 -
Strong, muscular legs on women = sexy!
This!0 -
I agree with your friends. I think it's stupid to need affirmation from guys. I freaking love my muscles.0
-
I would LOVE to have that shelf. It's one of my ultimate goals. I'm know a lot of men love it.
And yes, we should be strong and fit for ourselves not for to attract as many men as possible.0 -
Like the top photo?
VERY sexy! What's the alternative? Legs like sausages? Even slim legs that have that untoned sausage look to them aren't great, compared to athletic-looking pins.0 -

You want to be attractive to other guys? Hmmm,
I don't mind muscular legs, as long as they're not like picture #2.
Besides, legs are so far down the order of attractiveness, it doesn't even matter.0 -
At this point in life, I'm really attracted to fit women (partly physical, partly cause I know the hard work and dedication it takes to get there), and all things that come along with it.
I don't actually put much thought into specifics at all. Same goes for breast size (big issue on here). Your body changes when you get in better shape, for the most part it's all positive and helps in all aspects of life.
From 'average' to 'toned', even thin/lean/ripped, If it's healthy, I can appreciate it all.
Fluffy green wigs? Sure, why not.

If by "shelf", you mean quads, build 'em up! Strong legs are sexy legs. My wife is a triathlete, and the tops of her thighs are defined into three distinct muscle groups, sexy, sexier, and sexiest!0
-
Skinny, untoned legs are ok. They don't detract from anything.
Toned, muscular legs are hot. They add to the whole package.0 -

Certainly. They're a hell of a lot better than skinny legs, that's for sure.0

All this selfhatred is so sad to see. Learn to love yourself!0

I've done a lot of googling for images related to the phrase "strong is the new sexy", and I can't find any evidence proving the statement wrong.0
-
I too really want a shelf.0
-
Yes! Women with strong legs are hot as hell!0
