I am 5'6" 165 and looking to tone up and slim down. I have never really lifted weights. I have done the circuit at the gym with the cable machines or used the dumb bells from time to time but nothing consistent. I am 35 and am currently on steroids for a medical condition. I have gained 6 lbs in the last 3 months and I need to get this under control. I want to start incorporating weights into my routines regularly because it will help me not just with weight loss but strength and will be a good habit as I age.

Do you have any websites or books you recommend for someone that isn't looking to bulk up but just tone and strengthen.

Thank you.

hey try new rules of lifting for women or strong lifts.

both are strength training programs that will encourage you to challenge yourself with weights. new rules has stages that last about 4-6 months depending on your workout schedule and the routine can sometimes gets a bit complicated.

strong lifts uses a few basic but effective compound moves.

both are good in my opinion, i just like them both for different reasons

also you wont bulk when you lift heavy weights unless you get a sex change, start taking steroids or eat thousands of calories over your TDEE
