Do you guys track all the fat you eat? Or just the SAT FAT. I mean I eat a lot of avocados and olive oil and eggs and nuts which have the good fat and sometimes go over by 20 g or so, and so now I only track my SAT FAT, should I stick to tracking it all? Will it keep me from losing weight if I don't hold back all the fat? Any input is appreciated. Greasias..

  • as long as you eat the correct fats, it shouldn't be a problem - I lost 20 pounds on a high-fat diet (then gained them all back when I started eating carbs again D: Now I have to start from scratch :P)

Contrary to popular belief, there's nothing wrong with saturated fat. To make a long story short, the current belief that saturated fats are bad are based on awful epidemiological studies. Recent meta-analyses have concluded that the idea of saturated fat being bad for one's health is simply not true.

Now, on tracking fat. If you're trying to aim for a specific caloric intake then I suggest you enter everything that is put in your mouth. Fats are dense so just focusing on saturated fats would be pointless since you could easily consume a copious amount of fat, which will lead to a fairly large caloric surplus.

Also, there really isn't such a thing as a good fat or bad fat (kind of). I mean, you can argue that trans fat is bad but for the sake of simplicity, neither saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated are particularly bad or good.
