Sudden drop in heart rate

Today I was doing the same cardio workout I have been doing for the last few weeks. I have been basically sedentary prior to those two weeks, but the workout wasn't bad enough that I couldn't finish it or that I was out of breath. Today my heart rate was way up during a particularly challenging part of the workout, and within a few seconds, I felt dizzy, my vision blurred, and I felt like I was going to pass out. I glanced down at my HRM, and my heart rate had dropped to 68 b.p.m. It took me about 5 minutes of freaking out to recover, but I feel fine now.
My boyfriend has suggested that I call my doctor on Monday, but I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this kind of incident. It really scared me.

I agree with your boyfriend. My HRM shows blips like that all the time, but I have a murmur. I do NOT feel dizzy or like I'm going to pass out though.
Call your doc and ask about a stress test or something of the sort.0 -
DEF. cal your Dr!!! It MIGHT be 'nothing'--or it might need attention---PLS get it checked out!! Don't take the chance!0

I've had that happen, but I usually end up fainting. My dr tested it a few years ago and found nothing though. Its only happened twice in the past 5 years maybe so its not a big deal for me. I get dizzy when I do circuits that have me positioned horizontally, like push ups, then back to standing quickly. After enough repeats, if I'm really tired, I might faint.0

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I've done a little 'net research. (Yeah, I know -- no self-diagnosing...BUT) I've found something called "vasovagal syncope". It actually corresponds to years and years of this kind of thing happening when I got hot, so I'll also mention this to my doctor. If this is indeed what my problem is, it's not life threatening.
Fingers-crossed, and I'll post back here once I've discussed things with my doctor.0 -
