Yesterday, I did a 4 mile run, drank over 8 cups of water, and ate like 1600 calories (still under what MFP says would have been my goal). When I finished my food diary for the day, it said if I did this every day for 5 weeks I'd lose 10 more pounds. But, this morning, the scale says I had GAINED over 1/2 a pound. Has this ever happened to you? (btw, I'm 5'6" and weigh 149)

it might be water weight? I've found that when I drink lots after I exercise lots it takes my body a few days to return to normal.

I really wouldn't worry about a half pound gain or loss. Weight fluctuates all of the time. Pay attention to the trend in your weight and stick to weighing weekly to avoid stressing over every tiny gain or loss.

losing weight isn't linear. you will gain a little here and there, you will lose too.

Measurements are key! I gained half a pound this week... but dropped a half inch in my waist.

yeah, dont fret over day to day gains and losses. I would just weigh once a week, in the morning, naked, before you eat, after you void :)

It's a journey, not a race.... don't be so hard on yourself!

Thanks everyone for the support. I usually don't fret over day to day fluctuations, but I did this morning because I was so "good" yesterday. But, like you said, the overall trend in downward, so that is what I will focus on!

It's counter intuitive but it's not unusual to put on water weight after exercising. Your body tries to replenish glycogen normally stored in your muscles in anticipation of more exercise and for every gram of glycogen your muscles also store 3 g of water.
